What are hemorrhoids?

There is no concrete reason as to why hemorrhoids happen. Some could be due to low fiber intake, sitting for a longer period of time on the toilet and forcing to have a bowel movement. But none of these facts has been proven. It is also said that tumors in the pelvis trigger hemorrhoid enlargement because of the pressure on the veins in the anal canal. Pregnancy is also considered one of the causes of hemorrhoid enlargement, but again the particular reason as to why it happens is unclear.

It is said that the force you exert when having a bowel movement that pushes the hemorrhoid cushion downward especially in hard stool.  It is the muscle that enables us to control our bowel movement; hence the increased force exerted to have the stool come out can worsen even the slight hemorrhoid.

Some physicians are of the view, that the most common reason of hemorrhoids is unhealthy diet and unhealthy lifestyle. There are higher chances of constipation due to consumption of unhealthy food like junk food and the like. Because of constipation the person exerts more pressure on the anal region, which can cause hemorrhoids to swell.

High blood pressure can also trigger hemorrhoids due to increased pressure in the veins of the rectum causing hemorrhoids to swell. It is believed that people who are over-weight are more prone to suffer from hemorrhoids, as the whole pressure of your body shifts to the anal region as you sit. Other reasons like carrying heavy weight objects frequently can also contribute to the cause. As carrying or lifting too much of heavy weight may strain your body specially the anal region. It is also said that anal sex can also become a reason of hemorrhoids.

The best way to get rid of hemorrhoids, is to avoid fatty and junk food. Include fiber in your diet, leafy vegetables are the best supplements for it. Drink a lot of water, as it helps in cleansing your body and easing your bowel movements.  While passing the stool, do not rub it hard while cleaning, always use a soft damn tissue or cloth and wipe it out gently. Any kind of rough friction can worsen the hemorrhoid’s condition.  Just adopt a healthy diet and lifestyle, be aware of your own body and take care of it in each and every way.
