Anoscope:
A hollow, well-lit tube used in the viewing of internal
hemorrhoids.
Coagulation Therapies:
Techniques utilized by doctors that involve burning a
hemorrhoid through the use of electricity, a laser, or
infrared light.
Colonoscopy:
Procedure that allows doctors to view the entire large
intestine all the way to the rectum.
Cryosurgery:
Procedure administered by doctors that involve
"freezing" hemorrhoids, thereby eventually removing
them.
External Hemorrhoids:
Occurs under the skin around the anus. Tend to
cause discomforting symptoms such as burning, itching,
and bleeding.
Hemorrhoids:
Network of veins around the anus area. The
condition know as hemorrhoids occurs when these veins
enlarge and distend usually caused by straining or
pressure.
Hemorrhoidectory:
The surgical removal of hemorrhoids.
Hydrocortisone:
A corticosteroid that helps reduce swelling, redness,
and itching.
Internal Hemorrhoids:
Swollen or inflamed veins found inside the anus.
Lidocaine:
A local anesthetic.
PPH:
Procedure for Prolapse and Hemorrhoids.
Proctoscope:
A short, metal rigid tube used to look in the anus and
rectum.
Rubber Band Ligation:
Procedure in which a doctor slips a small "rubber band"
around a hemorrhoid to cut off its blood flow then
causing it to shrink.
Sclerotherapy:
Procedure in which veins are injected with a sclerosing
solution, which causes them to collapse and fade from
view.
Sigmoidoscopy:
Procedure used by doctors to view the colon.
Thrombosed Hemorrhoid:
Occurs when an external hemorrhoid gets cut off from its
blood supply and a clot forms.
Witch Hazel:
Herb used for its astringent, antihaemorrhagic, and
anti-inflammatory properties.
